Mohs surgery requires a highly trained dermatologic surgeon. Both Dr. Clark and Dr. Flynn are Fellows of the American College of Mohs Surgery, Diplomates of the American Board of Dermatology (Board Certified) and Fellows of the American Academy of Dermatology. They work together as a team with our staff to provide you with efficient and comprehensive care.

Robert E. Clark, MD, PhD

Dr. Clark was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He attended and graduated with honors from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Dr. Clark earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed his internship in the Department of Medicine in Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis.  His dermatology residency and dermatologic surgery fellowship were completed at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC.  Dr. Clark also holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the School of Chemical Sciences at the University of Illinois.

Dr. Clark was the Director of the Dermatologic Surgery & Cutaneous Oncology Unit and the Cosmetic Laser Center at Duke University Medical Center from 1990-1998. He is recognized as a leader in the field of dermatologic surgery, treatment of skin cancer, and laser surgery. He has lectured and trained physicians nationally and internationally in laser surgery and cosmetic procedures.

Dr. Clark has multiple interests including karate, classical music, hunting, and camping.

Adam Anthony Ingraffea, MD

Adam Ingraffea, MD, grew up in Ithaca, NY. Dr. Ingraffea graduated from Boston University with a bachelor's degree in Chemistry. He spent his 20's working as a polymer chemist in Connecticut and later in New York. He also spent several years living in Argentina and Bolivia where he taught English and Chemistry. The experience of living in a third world country inspired him to dedicate his life to helping those in need. He also developed a love for the Spanish language and Latino culture.

He studied medicine at the Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He graduated class valedictorian and was selected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He went on to complete a dermatology residency at the Boston University/Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Ingraffea then moved to Cincinnati to train in Mohs surgery under the direction of Hugh Gloster, MD, at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

He served as an assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine for five years. He was the associate program director for both the dermatology residency and Mohs surgery fellowships. He was also the director of the resident continuity clinic and Mohs surgery at the Cincinnati VA hospital. While at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Ingraffea won many awards including Teacher of the Year in 2012. He was selected as a Best Physician in Cincinnati Magazine for three years in a row from 2013-2016. He is the author of 18 peer reviewed papers as well as multiple book chapters.

His clinical interests are in cutaneous oncology, Mohs surgery and facial reconstruction. He has performed over 4000 cases of Mohs surgery.

He enjoys spending time with his wife Edith, who is a Pediatrician, and his two young children Alex and Elena. He loves outdoor activities such as golf, fishing, hunting and SCUBA diving.

Timothy C. Flynn, MD

Dr. Flynn was born and raised in Columbia, Missouri. He received his undergraduate and medical diplomas from the University of Missouri - Columbia. Dr. Flynn completed his internal medicine residency at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, and his dermatology residency at Stanford University where he was Chief Resident. Dr. Flynn’s Dermatologic and Mohs Micrographic Surgery fellowship was completed at Washington University in St. Louis. He has also been a research fellow at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Flynn developed the Dermatologic Surgery and Mohs Micrographic Surgery program at Tulane University in New Orleans and served as its director from 1993-2001. He is currently a clinical professor for the Department of Dermatology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Flynn is acknowledged as an expert in skin cancer and dermatologic surgery, and is the immediate past president of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Flynn is recognized as a superb teacher, greatly in demand on a national and international basis. He is active in multiple dermatologic societies.

Dr. Flynn interests include music, cooking and bicycling. He and his wife Gina have two sons, Collin and Evan.

Elias Emile Ayli, DO

Born and raised in a small town in northern New Jersey, Dr. Elias E. Ayli is a fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic and reconstructive surgeon who was awarded an academic scholarship to attend Villanova University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology.  He received his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he was inducted into the honorary Sigma Sigma Phi service fraternity, was distinguished for obtaining the highest cumulative GPA in pathology, and graduated at the top of his class.

After graduation, the National Institutes of Health granted Dr. Ayli a post-doctoral research fellowship in cutaneous oncology at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine to study the role of signaling molecules in keratinocyte growth, differentiation, and tumor development.  Dr. Ayli presented this research at a number of scientific meetings including the Society for Investigative Dermatology, European Society for Dermatologic Research, and the International Society for Investigative Dermatology.  In addition, he published his research in numerous scientific journals, including the Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, Experimental Dermatology, and Giornale Italiano di Dermatologia E Venereologia.

Following this fellowship, Dr. Ayli served his medical internship and dermatology residency at the University of Cincinnati.  After residency, he completed his Mohs Micrographic and Dermatologic Oncology fellowship in Georgia, under the direction of Dr. David E. Kent, a nationally renowned Mohs micrographic and reconstructive surgeon.  During his fellowship, Dr. Ayli received extensive training in Mohs micrographic and facial reconstructive surgery, as well as cosmetic dermatology, including the use of lasers, fillers, chemical peels, tumescent liposuction, and botulinum toxin.

After this fellowship and prior to his arrival in North Carolina, Dr. Ayli spent over four years serving patients of Pensacola and the Gulf Coast region under the auspices of Dr. William B. Henghold, a prominent Mohs micrographic and reconstructive surgeon.  There, he performed nearly 7000 Mohs surgical cases, acquired expertise in advanced facial reconstructive surgery and the treatment of aggressive skin tumors, and was one of only a handful of Mohs surgeons in the country to utilize Mohs micrographic surgery for the treatment of melanoma.

Dr. Ayli has published extensively in the dermatology, dermatologic surgery, and dermatopathology literature and has co-authored a chapter in the authoritative textbook, Lever's Histopathology of the Skin.

Dr. Ayli enjoys spending time with his wife Corie and their three dogs, as well as hunting, traveling, drawing, listening to live music, and weight training.

Dan R. Ecclestone, Certified Physician Assistant

Dan was born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and completed physician assistant training at the State University of New York-Stony Brook. Dan has over fifteen years experience and is a Diplomat of the Society for Dermatology Physician Assistants and member of the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants.

He is married with two children and enjoys boating with his family and staying fit.

Steve A. Watson, Certified Physician Assistant

Steve was born and raised in Goldsboro, North Carolina. He earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Zoology and  Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from North Carolina State University. Steve received a Master of Health Sciences degree from Duke University and completed physician assistant training at Duke University School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants and the Triangle Area Physician Assistants.

He is married with two children and enjoys attending hockey games and camping with his family.

Wendy L. Jaget, Certified Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner

Wendy was born in New Jersey and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Wake Technical Community College. She received her Master of Science Degree in Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Wendy has over 14 years’ experience as a registered nurse with the majority being in the field of dermatology and Mohs surgery. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association and North Carolina Nurses Association.

Wendy enjoys riding her horses and hiking with her dog.

Jordan Castro, Certified Physician Assistant

Jordan was born and raised in San Dimas, California, a suburb near the city of Los Angeles. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Health with an emphasis in PA studies while running NCAA Division II Track and Field, working as a surgical assistant, and doing research in the biochemistry field. Jordan then went on to receive a Master of Health Sciences degree from Duke University and completed her physician assistant training at Duke University School of Medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants and the Triangle Area Physician Assistants.

She enjoys playing volleyball, medical mission trips, and leading worship at her church.

The Cary Skin Center is conveniently located on the corner NC Highway 55 and High House/Green Level Road in Cary, NC. Our Pinehurst office is located at 5 Regional Circle, Suite C in Pinehurst, NC. We offer free on-site parking with easily accessible patient drop-off, Wi-Fi and comfortable patient lobby.

Our eco-friendly initiatives include utilizing an electronic medical records (EMR) and online patient registration system to reduce paper usage, installing a bio retention unit to remove pollutants from storm water runoff and protect the local watershed, and offering ceramic coffee mugs at our beverage station to reduce material waste.

Patients are seen on an appointment basis. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please provide 72 hours notice so that we may offer another patient the opportunity for an earlier appointment. Our offices will gladly reschedule your appointment. The Cary Skin Center will make every effort to honor your appointment time. Emergencies do occur which may delay your scheduled appointment time. Our staff will keep you informed if the doctors will be delayed in seeing you. For urgent problems that require immediate attention, please call our office as early in the day as possible and ask to speak with a nurse. Based on your condition, we will make every effort to see you the day of your call.
